Meet Our Founder

Nicole Knutson created Safeguarding Therapy after realizing how unclear and intimidating the therapy process can feel when you’re just starting out.

Her own experience showed how easily clients can be left without guidance, unsure of what’s normal or what questions to ask.

Now, she’s helping others approach therapy with understanding and confidence—so it feels safe, transparent, and truly supportive from the very first step.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’ve ever felt unsure about what’s normal in therapy, you’re in the right place.

These FAQs are here to make the process clearer, safer, and easier to navigate—so you can move forward with confidence.

Safeguarding Therapy is a nonprofit education platform that helps you navigate therapy with confidence. We offer clear, trustworthy information about what safe, ethical therapy looks like so you can protect your well-being and make informed choices every step of the way.

Our resources are for anyone exploring therapy:  whether you’re brand new, currently in therapy, or healing after a difficult experience. If you’ve ever felt unsure about what’s “normal” in a therapy relationship, this space was built for you.

No. We don’t offer therapy, referrals, or crisis intervention. Instead, we focus on education and empowerment—giving you the knowledge, language, and tools to make therapy safer and more effective for you.

We don’t sell therapist listings or ads. Safeguarding Therapy exists to fill the gap between “finding help” and understanding what ethical help should look like. We teach what safety, respect, and clarity actually mean inside the therapy room by using real-world examples and simple language.

Founder Nicole Knutson built this platform after experiencing harm in therapy herself. What began as her personal healing journey has become a mission to help others feel safer, more informed, and more confident when seeking support.

Absolutely. Many ethical therapists read our client articles to strengthen their own awareness and create safer spaces for clients. Our tools are written for clients first, but anyone who values integrity in therapy can benefit from them.

Yes. We’re a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to public education, safety, and advocacy in mental-health care. Our focus is transparency—not profit.

You can share our resources, follow us on social media, and spread awareness to others seeking therapy. When our nonprofit donation portal launches, your support will help expand free tools and outreach to those who need them most.
