My Therapist Uses A Scent That Bothers Me
Sometimes it’s awkward to talk about smells. So, it may feel awkward to bring up a scent your therapist is using in their office.
Or, it may feel uncomfortable to mention that your therapist’s choice of cologne is bothering you. But, if it’s interfering with your ability to focus on your therapy, you have to be brave and bring it up.
“This is an issue that your therapist can easily accommodate. You just need to make them aware of it.”
Therapists know that smells can trigger memories (happy or not). Your therapist wants you to feel comfortable, especially if you have a strong sense of smell.
Therapists are trained to understand how your senses affect therapy.
“Make your therapist aware so that they can be considerate of your needs.”
Just calmly and courteously bring up your concerns, and your therapist will discuss what needs to be done to make you as comfortable as possible during your sessions.
